Alcoholic beverages: All beer without flavoring. This is true for rum, and for Single Malt Scotch Whiskey (that has not been aged in wine casks).
Irish whiskey: Jameson is kosher.
Vodka: if mentioned that from 100% grain, without additives.
Bourbon: Jack Daniels, Jim Bean
Baby food: Bio-Getreidebrei (Schmelz-Reisflocken) Milupa (from Germany) <1><2><3><7>
Baking powder: Kosher
Baking soda: Kosher
Butter (d): Available at the Sofia Central Synagogue. All German butter is kosher
Cacao: If without additives 100% cacao. Nesquick powder is kosher.
Cereals: Kellogg’s: Cornflakes, Choco’s, Frosties, Choco Krispies.
"Special K red Fruits" is Kosher but Dairy.
Hahne, Aro<2> and Nestle: Cornflakes with no additions.
Cheese (d): Bulgarian white and yellow cheese are available in the Sofia Central Synagogue. In stores the Philadelphia cream cheese that is produced in Germany by Kraft has a few kosher tastes: Regular, Diet, and Krauter. <1><2><3><5>
Chewing gum: Orbit’s (by Wrigley's)
Chocolate: Any chocolate from Ferrero, produced in Poland and Italy. This includes Kinder Chocolate, Ferrero Rocher and more.
Lindt: All chocolates, besides the ones containing Cognac.
Milka (Kraft): "Alpine Milk" Normal, whole nuts, hazelnuts, strawberry/yoghurt, white chocolate,
Merci with hebrew writing on the back (the red wrapping).
Schogetten Chocolate: All tastes with hebrew writing on the back
Chocolate bars: Bounty (d), Mars (d), Snickers (d), Twix (d), Kinder Bueno (d) (about Mars-delight we have no information yet).
Chocolate spread: Nutella
Coffee, and instant coffee, are Kosher if they are 100% pure, no additives.
Cookies: Walker’s, shortbread and chocolate chip cookies with O U sign. <1>
Couscous: Tipiak plain couscous with bdp-K sign on the side. <1>
Drinks: Coca Cola, Sprite, Fanta, Pepsi, Mineral Waters, Pri-Sun, Schweppes, Nestea. Juices that say "100% juice". Even if it does say that, grape juice is not good. 100% Multi Fruit from Florina is kosher, from BBB not.
Eggs: White eggs have hardly any problem of blood spots. Brown eggs have many. White eggs are available at: <1><3><4>
Fish: Fresh fish with fins and scales. See: Fishlist.
Canned Tuna: Rio Mare in water or olive oil, without additives (from Italy). <1><2><3> and from John West <3><4>
Flour: All Bulgarian flour has no problem of “chadash”.
Fruit/Chocolate Milk: Fibela - (Фибела) - "wave" Chocolate, Cappucchino, Banana, Melon. Strawberry is not kosher.
My day: Mlekcho (only with chocolate taste)
Grain Products: Rice cakes (orizovki) from Izzi and from Zjitenki (produced by Dominantis, Plovdiv.
Halva: Koska; Tahin helvasi: plain/pistachio/cacao, all with O K sign on the back <2>
Honey: Kosher if without additives.
Ice Cream: Snickers (d), Mars (d), Twix (d), Bounty (d) (the Frozen ice cream snacks are also kosher)
Ketchup: Heinz (only if produced in Holland)
Lyutenitsa: Sola, Avrora (only with OU sign on the etiket; this is by some versions of the Makedonska Lyutenitse, Pikanta Taina, and more. There also exist conserved garlick and hot peppers from this company, which are kosher if bearing the OU sign.
Matzot: Available at the Sofia Central Synagogue.
Mayonnaise: Remia (the regular one, not Mayolite) produced in Holland <2>
Meat: Available at the Sofia Central Synagogue
Milk: Cow, sheep and goat milk
Mints: Mentos (all besides grape taste, and only if produced in Holland), Orbit (from Wrigleys, if produced in Biesheim, Poznan or Plymouth)
Nuts: All that are not roasted. Nuts should be checked for bugs. (inside too, depending on the kind).
Oil: All Sunflower (with a preference for Papas) and olive oil (with a preference for the ones with O U sign)
Olives: Only those in salt and water, not vinegar. Black and Greek olives are usually in vinegar, and should then not be consumed.
Pasta: Stella, Reggia (with O U sign), Divella (with siKs sign)
Rice: All without additions. It should be checked for bugs.
Salt: kosher
Snacks: Corny (only the kinds that have Hebrew writing on the back).
Sour Cream: Kosher if ingredients are only: Milk and fermenting agent (zakvaska). Examples: Danone, Meggle, Elbee, Bor Chvor
Spices: All dry single spices are kosher, but not garlic powder and spice mixtures
Sugar: Kosher
Sweets: Koska: Turkish Delight, both "mixed flavoured"<1><2>, "hazelnut, pistachio, coconut"<2> and "Pistachio"<1> are kosher, when bearing the O K symbol on the back.
Mentos, produced in Breda, Holland (besides for grape taste).
Sweeteners: Artificial sweeteners (Saccharin) in tablet or powder form are kosher, however, when it contains "Lactose" in the ingredients it is Milky.
Techina: Techina base in conserves (not the ready to eat one) without any additives (meaning only ground sesame) is kosher.
Tomato Puree: All 100% pure tomato puree
Vegetables: fresh, frozen (not pre-coocked) and cans. Pay attention that added ingredients are only: salt, sugar and water. Beans are not o.k.
Ardo - (white) frozen "sliced mushrooms" are basically free of a bug concern
Vinegar: only apple vinegar.
Wine: red and white Austrian wine are available at the Sofia Central Synagogue. At Vinopolis (Bacho Kiro Street 8) one can buy Kosher Israeli wines. Phone: +359 886 58 90 90
Yeast: All dry yeast (such as Dr. Oetker)
Yoghurt: only natural/regular ones without additives. Regular yoghurt means that it only contains: Milk (and/or milk powder) and the fermenting agent (zakvaska). Some may contain sour cream (smetana) as well.
Examples of Kosher Yoghurts are:
* Vereya (Верея): 0,1%, 3% and 4,5% fat
* Elena - 2% and 3,6%
* Bor Chvor
* Na baba
* Parshevitsa
* Elbee
* Danone (Balans or Activa)
Yoghurt with Fruit/chocolate: From Danone - Activia: Only Kiwi and Pineapple
